MR. HAKERE PARAONE.
(From Our Correspondent.) THAMES, Wednesday. A member of the Xgati-Maru tribe, directly descended from the paramount chief Kahungnnu, Mr. Hakere Paraone, of Manaia, near Coromandel. has died, aged 72 years. An eloquent Maori epeaker, he wae gifted in the lore of Maori genealogies. He was presented with a walking stick ae a token of goodwill when the Duke of Gloucester came to New Zealand. He k survived by one eon, eix grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Mr. ] was born in County Clare, Ireland, arrived with his parents in the Demotine H in 1897. His father wa« proprietor j3i the Hikutaia Hotel. Mr. had been farming for many fitting member for the Hikutaia ri|fiil»l on the Thames County Council. v loaves four sons and three daughte^f!!!!
