POISONED POLLARD.
DESTRUCTION OF RABBITS. (From Our Own Correspondent.) TUAKAU, Monday. The representations of the Te Akau North Rabbit Board, to counter the move by acclimatisation societies for the discontinuation of the use of pollard poisoning as a means of fabbit destruction, have received the endorsement of the North Island ' Rabbit Boards' Association. according to an intimation received by the board at its monthly meeting to-day. A circular letter, received from the secretary of the association, Mr. Bruce Kelly, Hastings, reiterated the board's contention that - pheasants and native game did not touch poisoned pollard, and asked the various affiliated boards to forward their views to the association, so that representations could be put before the Minister of Internal Affairs, the Hon. W. E. Parry, and the Minister of Agriculture, the Hon. W. Lee Martin. The chief inspector, Mr. G. F. Souness. stated that, taking the board's district as a whole, it was never cleaner of rabbits for this period of the year. He added that £40 would cover the total pay-out to date for rabbit scalps. On the basis of a bonus of fid a scalp, this represents- a total of 1600 rabbit*.
