WAIKATO LAND.

DERATING PROPOSAL CONFERENCE TO BE HELD. (From Our Correspondent.) HAMILTON, Friday. The question of derating farm lands waa discussed at a meeting of the Waikato aub-provincial executive of the Farmers' Union to-day. Mr. F." L. Onion said that while total derating might be a desirable objective, all local bodies were not entirely in favour of it. The union, in co-operation with the county councils, was likely to achieve greater success if it aimed immediately at partial derating and at persuading the Government *o allot the revenue from motor taxation to the construction and maintenance of roads. The union could assist the project by securing the signatures of farmers to petitions favouring tho scheme. On the motion of Mr. F. C. Roberts it was decided to convene conference of local body and Farmers' Union representati\es in the Auckland Province to plan a campaign in support of partial derating.
