NEW PROFESSOR. i m AUCKLAND UNIVERSITY. YOUNG ENGLISHMAN CHOSEN. Of 14 applicants. Dr. Julius Stone, of lyced-. has. been appointed Pn»fe.--oi" of Law at tho Auckland Univer.-ity College hv tho college council. Dr. Stone is 'M years old and is married. Dr. Stone took first-class honours in the Honours School of Jurisprudence at Oxford in UJ2N, and in the next year his Bachelor of Civil Law. In 1030.'he took his Master of Laws at the I'niversity of Leeds. Two years later, as the result of study at Harvard I'niversity. he was awarded the degree of Doctor nf Juridical Science.
In 1038 he took his doctorate in civil law at Oxford. From 1928 *o 1031 hewas in practice in Leeds, where he was a solicitor of the Supreme Court.
The successful applicant has had wide teaching- experience, both in Knglaud and America. He was assistant lecturer in several law subjects at the Hull University College from 1930 to 1931. From 1932 to M«4 he was instructor in jurisprudence at Harvard Law School. and in the next two years was assistant Profeeeor of Law at the i-ame school. He became Professor of International Law and Organisation at the Fletcher .School of I>aw and Diplomacy, America. In thr past two years he has been lecturer in law at the University of Leeds. . A wide field is covered by his publications. They range*, fiVm aspects of International Law to books, on evidence and conflict of laws. The appointment was unanimously made bv the council.
