PAPAKURA BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The fortnightly meeting of the Papakura Borough Council wa» held lant evening, the Mayor, Mr. S. Evans, presiding.
Safety Week.—A long letter wae received from the Commissioner of Transport asking the Council to take part in the Safety Week Compaign. The council decided to support the Minister of Transport in hie efforte to reduce motor accidents.
Subdivision Plans.—Plane were eub- !?*»«* by Messrs. J. McCail and A. Willie for the subdivision of their properties. The plan of the former wae referred to the legal committee for a report, and Mr. Willie' wae accepted.
Reward Claimed.—A claim for an old reward of £10 was made by Mr. W. H. Bates for supplying information of people ewitaming in the water reserve at Hunua. The clerk, Mr. A. L. Cooper, reported that the claim wae in order. The Mayor said it revealed a weakness of the old board in not prosecuting the offenders. It wae decided to recognise the claim.
New Zealand Defence Leagne.—After receiving a letter from the Putekohe Defence League, suggesting that Papakura be included in a Franklin branch, the council decided to let the Government act first.
War Manorial.-The Mayor reported that eomeone had bo far loet hk eenee of decency ae to cover the War Memorial with a canvas ecreen taken from a nearby shop, and generally make a men of the gardens surrounding the memorial. It wae decided to work with the local branch of the R.S.A. and to eupplement the branch's offer of £5 with another £5 as a reward for anyone who would help in discovering the culprit.
