STATE HOUSES.
OVER 1900 NOW COMPLETED. 2000 MORE UNDER CONSTRUCTION. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON,* Wednesday. In reviewing the progress of the State housing scheme. the Parliamentary Under-Secretary in Charge of Housing, Mr. J. A. Lee. said that over 1000 houses had been completed, and that fully 2000 were under construction. Mr. Lee said that the houses advertised totalled 0000 and that work was proceeding in SO towns. Over 5400 men were employed in the housing scheme for the week ended November 11, fully 4000 being engaged on construction. Of that total over .'!s<)o were artisans and the remainder labourers. There had been 053 houses completed in Greater Auckland, including 251 in the city, and 210 in Oraikci; 503 in Greater Wellington, including 38!) in Lower Hutt; 04 in the Christchurch district, and 84 in Dunedin and suburbs. So far 1580 houses had been completed in the North Island and 313 in the South Island. The rate of completion had now become fairly rapid. The demand for State rental houses was still remarkable, showing that there was a great shortage of housing accommodation throughout the Dominion.
