WESTFIELD MARKET. HEAVY ENTRY OF BEEF. CALVES ALSO PLENTIFUL. The biggest yarding of fat cattle for some time was offered on the W estfield fat stock market to-day, and as a result values for cows and heifers were down by as much as £1 a head. Hie entry of steers was particularly heavy, and butchers were therefore inclined to neglect cow i beef, which was also more plentiiul than at recent sales. (Quotations for ox were unchanged, ranging up to 4') per 1001b. Shortage of feed was responsible for the increase in the offering. f;i'nt?rs being forced to unload stock. Drying winds hire nullified the beneficial effects on the pictures of the recent rains, and more rain is urgently needed, especially by Wa k.-ito suppliers of the market. Among the steers quality was generally high, the best lo: being sold on account of Mr. H. F. Reed. Wairanga. His line of 14 prime bullocks realised from £10 15/ to £15 10/. A single steer from Mr. Harold Reed, Wairanga, made £15, and anothei from Donaldson Bros., Kaiwaka. £14 10,'. A truck of eight sold on account of Mr. G. Hastie, Papatoetoe, made up to £14 7 6. The calf market was also well supplied, and values showed a weaker tendency.
