CONSTABLE'S DEATH.

AFTER SHORT ILLNESS.

MR. F. W. MALLABOND.

The death occurred early this morning, after a brief illness, of Constable Francis William Mallabond, of 3, Lake Road, Devonport. A highly respected and efficient police constable, Mr. Mallabond, aged 59, had been stationed for some years at Devonport.

Last Thursday he contracted a cold and went off duty, *ut he did not go t» bed, his leave being spent in caring for his mother, aged 91, -whose death occurred on Sunday. However, Mr. Mallabond was compelled to go to bed on Sunday night. On Monday and yesterday he failed to improve, and last evening he was removed to the Auckland Hospital, where death occurred at 3 o'clock this morning.

Constable Mallabond leaves a wife and one child. Hβ joined the New Zealand Police Force at Auckland in 1919, and after doing duty in the city he was transferred to Devonport and later to Rotorua. Then he was sent for duty at Arapuni and subsequently was transferred back to Devonport several years ago.

A full police funeral will be accorded the late constable to-morrow afternoon, following a service at the chapel of Mr. H. Morris, Limited, Devonport, at 2.30. The interment will take place at Parua Bay cemetery.
