MOUNT ROSKILL ROAD BOARD.

The Mount Roskill Road Board met last night. The chairman, Mr. C. M. McCulloiigh, presided.

Request Declined.--A decision to decline the request of the Roskill Central Labour Committee to erect a temporary advertising wign on the board's property at the junction of Three Kings and Mount Albert Roads was made last night by the .Mount Roskill Ho.id Board. Reporting the fact* to the board the finance committee said that since the assessment of the area as rateable land in 1937 an objection was made to the value by the owner, and any alteration in valua- ' tion would be retrospective in effect, i Rates levied for 1937-38 on the original ' valuation amounted to £46 7/5 and for! 1938-39 £48 19'4. The present process was l in legal order and the Department could reduce the capital value from £500 to £5. or cause the hind to be purchased by the ■ Crown or sold at that figure. It was pointed out that title to the land was impaired in that the public had an implied right-of-way over it. The clerk, Mr. J. H. , Reich, eaid the land in question, one acre : and 35 perches, was really private property and had never been taken over by ' the board and dedicated. ' (
