PIANO WORKERS.

NEW AWARD WRITTEN.

Minimum wage rates of £5 a week for piano tuners and repairers, £4 15/ a week for piano repairers, and £4 12/0 for piano tuners, hnve been granted to workers in the Xorthern Industrial District Piano Tuners and "Repairers' Award, which had been issued by the Arbitration Court. A 40-hour week is fixed, to be worked in five days, with modifications in special circumstances. In an attached memorandum Mr. Justice O'Regan states that the union claimed that adults should be classed as journeymen and that provision should be made for apprentices. "The Court thinks this is unnecessary," his Honor states, "hut. in view- of' a suggestion made at the hearing, it- is pointed out that, as provision is made for youth assistants, it ia not intended ' that youths should be employed as apprentices."
