TROTTING.
WAIKATO CLUB. OCTOBER MEETING. PROBABLE POSTPONEMENT. (By Telegraph.— Special to "Star,") HAMILTON, this day. Owing to the general election date, October 15, clashing with the proposed nxture of the Waikato Trotting Club it is highly probable that the committee of the club will postpone the fixture, probably until the end of the year. It is significant that Mr. G. S. Clark, electoral returning ofiicer for the Hamilton district, has made arrangements to hire the club's dining room as a polling booth. The committee of the Waikato Club is to meet to-day to make a decision in the matter HAS HAD EXPERIENCE. Mr. G. Jew, who has been appointed to the secretaryship of the Waikato Trotting Club, was previously a member of the committee, and the vacancy on that body will be filled later (says our Hamilton correspondent). Mr. Jew claims a lengthy association with sport in the Waikato. He waa i secretary to the Ngaruawahia Racing Club. He was one of those instrumental in guiding the affairs of the popular picnic club into sound financial channels, and his interest in trotting resulted in large trotting fields at the club's recent meetings He has also interested himself in the breeding of pacers, having acquired the imported English pacing mare Miss Joan Direct. As a stock buyer in the Waikato for the past twelve years, Mr. Jew's business activities have taken him to all parts of the district, and the fact that he has actively interested himself in the sport will be of practical assistance to hinl in the position of secretary of one of the most progressive trotting clubs in the district.
