MONTEREY IN PORT.
ARRIVAL FROM SYDNEY.
HEAVY SWELL IN TASMAN.
The Matson liner Monterey arrived from Sydney at 7 a.m. this morning and berthed at Queen's wharf. She met with a westerly wind immediately after leaving Australia, and the weather was clear and fine.
Later, however, the vessel ran into heavy swells, several passengers suffering minor injuries and bruises in falls. One of the members of the Eastern Suburbs Rugby League team, which arrived - to play three matches against local sides, M. Hollfngdalc, suffered bruises to the hip, but lie will be able to play in Auckland. Jits. H. Sunderland, wife of the ex-6ecrotary of the Queensland Rugby League, who is going to Wigan, also suffered bruises when she I fell.
jAfter three weeks in Australia. Mr. T. Gough, of Auckland, returned home. He visited Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide. He said European news had dominated'affairs while he was away, and the Australian coal strike had had to take a back seat in the news as a result.
A through passenger for Honolulu is Mr. Donald G. E. McCathie, managing director of a large departmental store in Australia. Accompanied by his wife and daughter, he is making the round trig.
