INDEPENDENT CANDIDATE.
THE BAY OF ISLANDS SEAT.
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WHANG ARET, this day. A movement is afoot in the Bay of Islands electorate whereby the Independent candidate, Mr. W. Grounds, will he asked to stand down from the election contest in favour of the. National and Labour candidates. Already a large numbei* of letters 111 petition form and addressed to Mr. (Jrounds are being circulated throughout the Bay, and are being signed by numbers of supporters of both the National and Labour parties. Though the movement has only been in operation a few days, some hundreds of signatures have already been attached. A well-packed, house gave Mr. (Jrounds a great reception when he made tho second speech of his campaign at Paihia. Mr. Ground* again stated his decision to stay in the contest irrespective of what certain sections of the electors thought or said. '"If I thought there was someone more capable than I, then T would withdraw." he said. '"However, after serious consideration. I can say I know of 110 one better fitted to help North Auckland, and I must go forward." At the conclusion of the address a vote of thanks was passed. The other candidates are Mr. H. F. Guy (National) and Mr. C. W. Boswell (Labour).
