LOST OVERBOARD.
MINISTER MISSING. THE REVEREND ISAAC JOLLY. WORK IN AUCKLAND RECALLED. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, Thursday. A former moderator of the Presbyterian Church, the Rev. Isaac Jolly, aserl So years, was diecovered this mornina to be mining from the steamer Matangi. Mr. Jolly joined the vessel at Nelson, and -was last seen in his cabin at one o'clock this morning. ■ Mr. Jolly had epent the last five months in Nelson, end accompanied by hw wife he was returning to Wellington. ( When last seen in' L hie cabin he was evidently preparing for bed. It was at 6 a.m.. after the Matangi hr;d berthed at Wellington, that his absence was discovered. His clothing was foutd in the cabin. It is feared he was lost overboard, as jio trace of him has since been found.
Mr. Jolly studied in Glasgow before coming to New Zealand many years a.20. After a period at New Plymouth he completed his theological studies at Dunedin and took up the church extension charge of Waikiwi, near Invercarpill, where he was ordained in 188". He took charge of the Lawrence district a year later, and in 1894 he accepted a call to South • Dunedin, where ho remained for eight years. Mr. Jolly then went to Palmerston North until in 1910 he took charge of St. Stephen's Church, Poneonby. where he remained for 11 years until his retirement after 33 years in the ministry. He was moderator in 1909. Mr. Jolly's work was at all times distinguished by marked preaching power arid theological ability. All through his ministerial life he strove jto keep up the habits of a student. DurJhis residence in Dnnedin he married a daughter of the late Mr. John Sidey, of Corstorphine.
