UNFOUNDED RUMOURS.
ALL BLACK 1938 CAPTAIN. (By Telegraph.— Special to "Star.") DI.'XEDIX, thie day. Reference to rumoure reflecting on the aportainarohip of N. A. Mitchell, the 1938 All Black captain, wan made by a member of the Otago Kntrliy Union selection committee, at an Alhamlira Club function. These rumoure, he eaid, were entirely without foundation. The president of the club and representatives of other clubs, also voiced their disapproval of the rumoure, and emphasised Mitchell'*! undoubted sportsmanship. Takings at the «ix Ranfurly Shield matches played at Caritdjiook thie winter totalled over £4000. The best gate was £1500. for the Southland match last Saturday.
