GOOD RESPONSE.
CIVIL AE& GUARD SCHEME.
(Received 1.30 p.m.)
RUGBY, September 2.
The Civil Air Guard echeme began yesterday. The commissioners consider the response from the public is most satisfactory, and the number who have already applied is sufficient to occupy the flying training resources of the aero clubs fer a considerable time.
The formation of the Civil Air Guard is probably one of the greatest flying sch*.nes ever devised by any country in the world. It contemplates teaching something like 1.000.000 men and women between the ages of 18 and 50 to fly at a cost to themselves of £2 2/6 for very light aeroplanes, and £4 5/ for standard light aeroplanes.
The scheme, which is entirely voluntary, is to be established through the light aeroplane clubs of the country. Each club will form a section of Civil Air Guard members under a four years* agreement. The training for the Civil Air Gairt began with 1000 out of 23>M® who had already enrolled.
