MONTEREY'S' RECORD.
NEARLY 700 PASSENGERS. ARRIVAL AT AUCKLAND. With a record passenger list for the Matson Line to New Zealand, and every berth occupied, tho Monterey arrived at Auckland this morning from San Francisco and berthed at the Prince's wharf. She had 690 passengers, of whom 234 were disembarked here and 462 were for Australia. Before sailing to-night 195 passengers from New Zealand will be embarked. [ A fine-weather passage was experienced until runnipnr into a storm off the New Zealand coast yesterday. Mr. C. A. Hutchinson, United States Consul at Adelaide, is returning to Australia after five months in the United States. H» is accompanied 'by his wife.
| Mr. William H. Wobker, former German Consul in San Francisco, is en Tolitc to Melbourne to take up a similar position. Mr. and Mrs. B. Benskv returned by the vessel from a holiday of some months in California.
Sir John McKclvey, a prominent surgeon in Sydney, is on jiis way home after a visit to America.
Among the passengers are many prominent residents of American cities who have planned holidays in New Zealand and Australia.
