COUNCIL'S DECISIONS. In a lengthy order paper, various matters were dealt with at a meeting of the Auckland City Council last evening. Parking Problem. — Congestion by cars parking in Queen Street, Karangahape Road, Customs Street, Albert Street and Wellesley Street was the subject of a report from the public safety committee, in consequence of the matter having been brought forward by Mr. W. T. Anderton, M.P. The superintendent of traffic, Mr. C. Bland, said tliat if it were desired to remove the congestion caused in the streets mentioned, it would be necessary for the council to amend the by-laws to provide for absolute prohibition of parking in those streets. There had been a large increase in the number of prosecutions for parking offences. Filtration Plants. —It was decided to accept a tender of £7517 from Candy Filters (N.Z.). Limited, for filtration plants at the Parnell and Shelly Beach Baths. It was stated that eight weeks would be required to complete the work in the baths, and that 20 weeks woul& l>e necessary to complete the job. Drainage Sclie'me. —The Mayor, Sir Ernest Davis, presented a' report giving the Teasons why the -local bill promoted by tbe Auckland'and Suburban Drainage Board and recently 'introduced into Parliament in connection with the Auckland metropolitan drainage scheme was withdrawn. Airport Survey.—The Mayor presented a report on the conference of local bodies in the metropolitan area which discussed the Manukati airport site, and on his motion it was decided to instruct the city engineer, "Mr. J. Tyler, to proceed with the preliminary • survey investigations at an estimated-cost not exceeding £2000. Sunday Tennis.—lt was decided to refuse a request from the Auckland Lawn Tennis Association to allow Sunday play on the Domain tennis courts. The association said that it would not be organised play and would provide residents -in the vicinity with pleasant recreation. No Further Action. —On the recommendation of the parks committee it was decided, to take no further action in connection with an allegation by the Auckland and Suburban Local Bodies Laltonrers' Union that three men, who had been dismissed, had been victimised. ( Unwanted Animals.—Tn connection with the destruction of unwanted animals, the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals offered to undertake the work. They claimed that they could do it in a more humane way, and also collect and care for stray animals. It was decided to instruct the superintendent of traffic to make inquiries regarding the purchase of an electric lethal chamber. The city engineer, Mr. J. Tyler, reported that for the year ending March 31 last 000 dogs had been collected and 506 had been destroyed by lethal chamber and humane killer. Dock Site Building.—Decision was made to invite the Harbour Board to confer with the town planning committee before placing a building on the old dock site.
