WELL MERITED.
MRS. ALISON'S VICTORY. FIRST TITIRANGI CHAMPIONSHIP. After being runner-up last year and a consistent performer at Titirangi for several seasons, Mrs. J. M. Aileon won the Titirangi senior championship for the first time yesterday afternoon from Mrs. K. S. Whale, an improving player. Good holes were mixed with bad during the match, but the course was heavy and the competitors did not have the advantage of the placing rule which has had to be resorted to during the winter. Mrs. Alison took the first hole in 5 to 6, but her opponent replied with a birdie 3to square at the next. The next two holes were well played by both, standard figures, 5 and 3, being obtained. The long fifth; in heavy going, was a difficult hole, and Mrs. Alison took it in 6 to 7. The tables were turned at the next, played 'poorly, Mrs. Whale winning in 6 to 7. Again they were square. Mrs. Alison played the next three holes well and won them all, thus having a lead of 3 up when the second half began. Fortunes alternated in the next two holes, but when the twelfth was halved in 6 Mrs. Alison was still 3 up. She won "The Wrecker" in 5 to 6, and the short fourteenth was halved in 4. Both took s's at the fifteenth and this gave Mrs. Alison the win,. 4 and 3. The junior championship produced a long struggle between Mrs. G. Bartleet and Mrs. D. R. Walker, and it was not until the twentieth hole that Mrs. Bartleet won. A four-ball best-ball bogey resulted as follows:—Mrs. G. S. Laird and Mrs. Thome, Miss A. Hacket and Miss Bailey, 2 up; Mrs. Finlay and Mrs. Shroff, Mrs. Gre»att and Mrs. R. Grevatt, Mrs. Harvey and Mrs. Mclndoe, all square; Mrs. McMillan and Mrs. Pattinson, 1 down. FOR THIRD TIME. BARKER POVERTY BAY CHAMPION (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) GISBORNE, this day. W. D. Barker won the Poverty Bay provincial golf title yesterday for the third time in five vears. He defeated R. deR. Worker (the exinternational cricketer), Napier, 2 up. Both went out in 39, but on the homeward journey Barker took 41 against his opponent's 45. The final was played in perfect weather, except for one slight shower. The winner socured greater length from the tees, but superior accuracy with his approaches enabled the Napier man to offset this advantage. Both showed putting weaknesses. The semi-finals had resulted: Worker beat C. H. Wells, 1 up; Barker beat H. C. Barlow (Napier), 3 and 2. Barrington Miller (handicap) Cup-Semi-finals: A. E. Pearce (Waikato) beat J. C. Greig, 1 up; P. L. Singer beat H. D. Chrisp, 3 and 1. Final: Singer beat Pearce, 2 up.
