NAVAL REPAIR YARD.

COMMANDER APPOINTED. A Pi ess Association telegram from London states that a naval officer, Captain H. M. Barnes, has been lent to New Zealand for the newly-created post of Captain-Superintendent of the naval repair yard at Auckland. Captain Bajnes served in destroyers in war time, seeing action at the Dardanelles, and also commanded destroyers after the war. He recently attended a senior officers' course in Britain. Inquiries at the naval base reveal that the post is not actually a new one, as the cable indicates, but rather just a new name for Commander Tinlcy's post. Captain Barnss will replace Commander Tinley, and his duties will be practically the same, namely those of captain of the Philomel and officer commanding the Auckland naval base.
