CUSTOMS REVENUE. i HIGH AUCKLAND TOTALS. SALES TAX YIEIJ> RISES. While Customs revenue at Auckland shows a slightly downward trend as compared with last year, the general indications are that business turnover is being fairly well maintained, close to the peak reached during 1937. Sales tax returns, which reflect internal trade, show little variation from month to month, but in the aggregate represent an actual increase for the past eight months, in comparison with the total for the same period of the previous year. The amount collected in Customs at this port last month was the highest monthly total this year, and if the motor epirit duty of Od and the tyre tax are included the total is above that for Aujrust, 1037. Oenerally a buoyant revenue position exists.
