Broccoli is a garden variety of the ' common cabbage, said originally to have been brought to Italy or other parts of Europe from the island of Cyprus in utp sixteenth century. It is a' variety -U the cauliflower, differing from it in having coloured instead of white heads, an! in having a deeper tinge of colour in the leaves. It is also cultivated in much the same way as the cauliflower. There are varieties. . 1
