AUCKLAND'S MISSED CHANCES

TOIARU, th* day. Th« Dominion basketball tournament was continued to-day in overcast weather, with occasional drizzling ehowere, wni<>h made the hard courts slippery at times Hawkee Bay led the Dominion senior champions, Wellington. 4—2 at one eta-e but Wellington averted a major upset by producing magnificent combination to win an exciting game. The most Impressive display was given by Canterbury against Otago, which province was unable to cope with the scintillating passing of the opposition and accurate goal-throwing. Canterbury should offer, stern opposition to Wellington when the teams meet to-morrow.
Inability to shoot goafe ullpn afforded the opportunity was principally the cause for Auckland's overwhelming defeat bv Southland, which always had the upper hand. '
This morning's results were:— Firet Grade.—Wellington 20. beat Hawkee Bay 11; Canterbury 27, beat Otago 12; Southland 11. beat Auckland 4 Second Grade.—South Canterbury 19, beat Aehburton 11; Southland Minor 17 beat Manawatu 7;'Hutt Valley 12, beat Wairarapa 11.
Third Grade.—West Coaet 11, beat Mart borough 9; Wanganui 30, beat Buller 12; Hawke'e Bay Minor 20. beat Hokitika 10* Bueh 18, beat Horowhenua 11; Wairoa 10, beat Waikato 8; Wanganui w beat North Otago 14.
