ANGRY JOBLESS.
VANCOUVER RIOTING. Sit-Down Strikers Ejected From Art Gallery. 200,000 DOLLARS OF DAMAGE. United Press Association—Copyright. (Received 2 p.m.) VANCOUVER, June 19. Angry relief men, who have been on a sit-down strike in the art gallery of the Post Office for nearly a month, were ejected by tear-gas bombs after a pitched battle with the police, in which 50 were injured. The Royal Canadian “Motilities” assisted the local police against 1000 jobless demonstrators in a two-hour fight in the streets in which 200,000 dollars' worth of damage was caused. The Post Office, the Art Gallery and a score of shops were wrecked.
'The men last month demanded that the Government restore their relief after they had been cut off the relief rolls. When the Government refused they moved to the Post Office and camped. Then they announced they' would remain until something was done. Fighting as they retreated through the galleries the men smashed fixtures, hurled stones and tore pictures from the walls.
