FULL OF SCOTCH ONCE MORE.

VALPEEN THIRD TO SMILIN , THRU.

OUTSIDERS SUCCEED IN YORK WELTER.

RESULTS FROM DUNEDIN AND HASTINGS.

Consistency was the feature of the opening of the final day of the Auckland Racing Club's winter meeting at Ellerslie to-day, held amid continual showers, with the going heavy. The opening event, the Tamaki Steeplechase, saw Kinkle repeat his first day's win, while in the following event, Full of Scotch, winner of the similar hurdle event on the first two days, made it a hat trick. Naturally he was a hot favourite. Kinkle, though third favourite, was at a comparatively short price, too.

The final day of the Dunedin races opened in heavy rain and conditions were by no means promising. Scrap scored well in the Hurdles, leading a good field home by five lengths. At Hastings the weather was fine. Among the early events was a splendid race in the Maiden, Earlscourt heading off Morning Light and Hastings West to win comfortably.

Four horses provided a thrilling finish to the York Handicap, the principal flat event of the day, only half a length separating them. Victory rested with the comparative outsider. Jack Tar, who won by a neck to return a two-figure dividend. Only a head separated each of the next three horses, Erndale, Malagigi and Kilonsa, who finished in that order.

The Winter Steeplechase provided plenty of thrills, the climax being the falling at the last fence of Royal Mimic when out in the lead. Smiiin Thru came to the rescue of supporters of Irish Comet (the pair being bracketed) to win from Lucidus, with Valpeen, the Great Northern Steeplechase winner, only third in a field of seven.

Three horses fell in the Hawke's Bay Steeples, giving the victory to the little-fancied Skerryvore. The favourite, Royal Banquet was remounted after a fall and finished third. The principal race at Dunedin, the Steeplechase, was won by Bally Brit after a tussle with Burwood.
