TARIFF BOARD.
ADVISORY FUNCTIONS.
NO SECTIONAL INTERESTS,
The establishment of a New Zealand tariff board with advisor}' and appellate functions, anrt an official tribunal, as urged by the Auckland Chamber of Commerce, was discussed at a meeting of the executive of the New Zealand Associated Chambers of Commerce.
The president of the latter body, Mr. A. (». Lunn, said to-day that th^ general proposals, as outlined in Auckland, had been approved, subject to the matter being referred to the various chambers for approval.
Ono of tlie most important questions was the personnel of the proposed board, and suggestions would be invited from tlio nfliliatcd chambers. It was considered that the board should not be a political board nor appointed to represent sectional interests. It was felt that it should be a judicial board, free as far as possible from sectional bias. It was considered that that would not be impossible, as was shown by the setting up of the tariff commission in New Zealand following the Ottawa agreement.
