SAFE STOLEN.
RAID AT GLEN EDEN. t
POST OFFICE ENTERED.
€79 IN CASH TAKEN,
Expert cracksmen were at work early this morning at Glen Eden, when the post office was entered and the safe stolen, and taken about three miles away, where it was blown open on the roadside with gelignite. Ca<=h totalling £79 is missing. The raid was a particularly daring one, as the thieves worked almost at daylight. Entrance was gained by bursting in the front door of the small building. A truck, or motor car, must have been used to carry away the safe, which weighed about three hundredweight. Shortly before six o'clock this morning residents vicinity of the post j office heard a loud explosion. A few minutes later a newsboy, on passing the post office, noticed that the front door was damaged and open. He immediately informed the postmaster, Mr. Crouch, who lives about half a mile awav. On going to the post, office he found that the large safe had been removed.
At 0.40 o'clock a woman, while driving lie?- husband to work along Shaw Road, about three miles away from the post office, saw the safe lying on its back on the side of this road. The door had been cleanly blown with gelignite, indicating that the operators were experienced safe-blowers. Alongside the safe wore scattered* postal notes and stamps and other documents. The thieves stole the cash which amounted to £79. Evidently, the thieves preferred not to take the postal notes which were not easily negotiable.
