RACING AFFAIRS.
STIPENDIARY STEWARD. APPOINTMENT TO BE MADE SHORTLY. According to reports from Wellington there arc tp applications for the position of stipendiary steward, rendered vacant by the death of Mr. Norman McLean. Trie executive committee of the New Zealand Conference hae reduced the number to three, and a final selection will probably be made next week. The executive considered the allocation of two racing permits that will not be used by the Woodville Club this season, and has granted one to the Wairoa Racing Club, while it i« stated that the Matamata. Club may get the other.
