TRAMWAY CONDUCTORS.

As one absolutely independent of anv connection with the Transport Board I would make a suggestion that the board agree to give a concession to its employees which. I am sure, would be greatly appreciated. It would be difficult to name a more efficient and courteous band of employees than our Auckland tram conductors. Tiieir humane acts may be seen every day—that kindly assistance to the aged—that cautious eye on the children alighting from or boarding the tram—that help across to the pavement with onr unfortunate blind—that hold-up of the tram when a passenger has been seen running down some side street—that pleasant smile and remarkable self-control witnessed even when the conductor has to force his war again a.nd a<*aJn through a crowded tram, and a passenger or the_ "sweet young thing" in front tenders a half-crown for a one-section fare. Ten minutes' reflection would amaze you with the service the conductor daily renders the citizens, and would it not be grossly inhuman if we refrained from granting them some small concession in comfort in their laborious duties? The business man. the office girl, even the members of the board, are mighty g-lad to board a tram and find a seat —particularly on these veryhot days—and surely they agree that onr conductors are just as prone as we to legs, so why not a little seat on the back platlorm for him? It could be installed at very small cost_ and without- interference with the comfort of passengers. Should anvone object to my suggestion, please let the' reason be Known, otherwise may it be publicly known to the Transport Board that it has a'mandate from the people to grant this concession to the conductors, PASSEVGER.
