POSSIBILITY OF ATTACKS. ■ _ - cmsERVIAG HER RESOURCES. I I (From Oar Own ComespoEdent.) CHRLSTCHCECH, Wednesday. j A general feeling among tie German i | people that Germany would be attacked \ or would find it neeeesarv to attack some other country was 'observed bv Wk * ! *V t ' eblef at the Wlieat Institute, who has I returned to Christchureh after a trip sto America, and Europe. He said Ger many was. conserving her resources, but wv n ° & nenl shortage of food and clothing. There weened to be a great deal of ignorance about conditions in tAe outside world. The newsi papers were accurate .enough; tbev did not distort facts, but they were sketch v and selected news that often gave a I false impression of other countries. ] They would make it appear, for instance I « that there was a great deal of unrest !| America. Conditions in Russia were ; painted as being very bad, and therp was a general feeling that there would be a clash between Russia, and Germany. I In general it" seemed that Germanv felt that she woaM not get .nything if she did not take it, said Mr. HußettShe was cynical of offers of help, and felt that tie League of Nations was a machine to be worked to her disadvantage. Her desire to obtain .colonies j j was based on the feeling that raw ] ! materials, rather than markets, were | what was required, an attitude which j again indicated a preparation for war. j Apart from this there was a feeling of national pride that Germany was a fipt-rate Power, and should have colonies. There was no reasoning with the Germans over this 'attitude, and thev were confident that they would obtain j what they wanted.
