BAR TO ENTERPRISE.
EXISTING LEGISLATION.
PROPERTY MARKET. TROUBLES.
u ■ f (By Telegraph—Own Correspondent.) DUNEDINi Wednesday.
' According to 'Dunedin real estate agents the situation concerning the property market , is. likely to become more acute during 1938. There is no likelihood, they affirm, of any increase in building for renting, or for speculative purposes, existing legislation and uncertainty as to the future being a distinct bar to enterprise of that description. There, is 4>tendency on the part of those who urgently need homes to buy them, if possible, on a small deposit system, though the number of houses now available on euch terms is rapidly diminishing. ......
"Inquiries by would-be tenants are never-ending now," remarked one of the leading agents. "Owners of properties are preferring to leave their, houses empty pending sale, rather than to let them, and," he added, "you can in all circumstances hardly blame them." Another agent remarked: "I am afraid this new; legislation is going to act as a kind of boomerang, and prospective buyers of higher-priced properties particularly are strongly inclined to wait until jtfasp the next election." .
