DEMAND FOR STEEL.

STILL KEEN IN BRITAIN. PRICES TO BE MAINTAINED. A decision to maintain the juices at the present level until the end of 1938 has been readiest by the steel associations covering the main basic steel products, according to an announcement by the British Iron and Steel Federation. There is a proviso that in all sales and contracts deliveries after December 31. 1938. will be at association prices then ruling. In spite of recent world disturbances, states the federation, there is no abatement of the demand for steel products in Great Britain, and in taking this course in the face of increased and still increasing costs of their raw materials the iron and steel industry is actuated l>y the desire to contribute to the prolongation of the present level of trade activity and by the hope that some mitigation of the burden of its own material costs may be secured by co-operation with the interests involved.
