CAMBRIDGE CLUB.

THE SUMMER MEETING.

CHIEF EVENTS DISCUSSED.

BEXLEY GIRL IS FANCIED. Satisfactory acceptances were received for the summer meeting of the Cambridge Trotting Club, to be held on Saturday next, and everything points to the club enjoying a most successful fixture. Considerable interest will centre in the exhibition between Lawn Derby, Nervie's Last and King's Play, for which local members of the club 'have donated a 30 guineas trophy. The fields, generally, are good, and there is plenty of material engaged to provide some fine contests. The Two-mile Contest. Off the front of the Cambridge Summer Handicap Bexley Girl should take some beating. She was only produeed on one occasion at Epsom over the holidays, and was decidedly unlucky to be beaten into third place. She was knocked back on several occasions, and then made a great effort in the straight, and was travelling better than anything at the finish. Bexley Girl was not raced again owing to a slight injury to her throat, but according to reports from Takanini she has made a good recovery. Her prospects look second to none. Mr. W. Johnstone has a useful pair in King Country and Hearsay. Neither met with the best of luck in their outings at Epsom, and they can' be expected to show improvement before very long. They are solid types of pacers, and shoukl experience no trouble in staying out the two miles. Mountain Flight has been racing very disapppintingly of late, and will have to show a big improvement to hold her own in this ciasq., jjherrill is not a bad sort of pacer when the class is not too strong. Baron Grand showed a glimpse of his best form by finishing Becond off 48yds at the Auckland meeting, and a repetition of that effort should see him prominent. Sir Frank is a splendid little pacer with plenty of courage, but he does not appear to be well placed on 72yds. However, he does nothing wrong, and may be in the firing line for the greater portion of the journey. Great Chum completes the field, but a victory for him off his mark would come in the nature of a big surprise. Some that may be in demand are: Bexley Girl and the King Country-Hearsay bracket. The Sprint Event. Several of those engaged in the Te Aroha Handicap, the open sprint race, are also down to contest the Cambridge Handicap, and the running in the latter event may prove a good guide. There are same speedy sorts on the front, and Chili Bean and King Country are sure to set a merry pace. The former disappointed at Epsom, but he is a good type of pacer who is likely to win races this season. Ch err ill and Hearsay, on 12yds, will have plenty of friends, as they have victories to their credit over the distance and are reliable. Baron Grand will have plenty of friends should he not be penalised for his effort in the Cambridge Handicap, as he can both sprint and stay. Handicapper appears to have lightened up a little as the result of his racing at Epsom, but he is partial to the distance, and will prolwblv be well in the picture for the major portion of the journey. General Sarefield and Frank Pest should be held safe by Sir Frank, who is a fine beginner, and will be up with the field before half the distance has been traversed. It is an open race, but some that may be in favour are the Hearsay-King Country bracket, Sir Frank and Chili Bean. The acceptances are:— SUMMER MAIDEN" HANDICAP of £100. One mile and n quarter.
