Mr. C. J. L. White, of ISunedin, is visiting Auckland.

Mr. G. Baiklon left for Wellington by the Limited express last night.

Mr. F. W. Dawson was a passenger by the Limited express from Wellington this morning.

Mr. G. M. Dillon arrived in Auckland by the Limited express this morning from Wellington. He is at the Grand Hotel.

Mr. H. C. Hemphill, clerk of the W hangarei County Council, has been appointed to the position of district coroner for Whangarei in place of Mr. G. H. Morris-h. during the absence of the latter on a trip abroad.

Professor A. St. George Huggeti. and Mr. Cecil P. G. W kely, of London, who last week conducted tho primary ex a liination for the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, have returned to Wellington. °

Mr. If. P. Chinchen. of the head office staff of the National Bank of New Zealand in London, is returning to New Zealand in February. He has resigned his position as the representative of the Auckland Cham her of Commerce on the council of the federated Chambers of Commerce of the British Empire.

Major-General S. R. Davidson, an old boy of Nelson College, arrived in Auckland from London" yesterday. MajorGereral Davidson, who is now living in retirement in Scotland, had a distinguished career in the Indian Armv, and later participated in the Great War with equal distinction. From Auckland lie will proceed to Featherston.

The Rev. John Flynn, of Inland Australia. who is widely known for Lis strikingly successful work in overcoming the isolation of settlers scattered in desert areas of the continent by means of aeroplane services and radio, has advised that he will visit New Zealand next February. He will come in reply to an invitation extended to him some time ago by the Presbvteriau Church of the Dominion.

Mr. N. S. Woods has returned to Dunedin from England. Mr. Woods has for the past two years been out research in certain industrial organising problems under a fellowship awarded bv the Rockefeller Foundation of Paris. H e also spent short periods studving in the International Labour Office at Geneva and in Germany and Italy, besides IS months study of organisation for industrial relationships in the larger industries in various parts of Great ■Britain.
