Pennant Bowls Fifth Round

LEADING CLUBS.

THE TWO SECTIONS.

GREY LYNN AND WAIUKU.

CARLTON AND MOITNT EDEN TIE FOR SECOND PLACE.

(Bv TRUXDLER.)

The net result of the fifth round in the pennant competition of the Auckland Centre, played on Saturday under perfect weather conditions, is that Waiuku now occupies a virtually impregnable position an section B, having slightly increased the percentage margin over the next highest in the section, Takapuna. The strong position will be more clearly realised by calculating that if Takapuna or West End won the whole of their games in the remaining second round (postponed from November 13 to February 26), which seems impossible, Waiuku would need to win only two games and a draw in order to hold the section.

Without niuku holding such a commanding position the remaining round would have been decidedly interesting, tor the next nine clubs are within 10 per cent of each other, which is niost unusual. In fact the percentage table shows that with the exception of the highest club and the lowest the maximum ditt'erenee is less' than 2o per cent, so there will be a great run for second place, especially between Takapuna, West End. and Onehunga, for they are so little ahead of the four clubs who tie for fifth place that ,any of the seven may sgcure that honour.

Grey Lynn jumped from fourth place to first in section A, displacing Otahuhu (now sixth) from that position by winning live of the six games played. Furthermore, as Carlton and Mount Eden (now equal for second place) each came down a little <tiey Lynn now has even a greater lead than Otahuhu had, and something quite out of the ordinary will have to happen if drey Lynn cannot get sufficient wins out of Devonport, Edendale and Buckland's Beach in the remaining round, to win the 6ection.
