HERNS BAT JUNIOR YACHT CLUB.

THE SILVER FERN EVENT. The Heme Bay Junior Yacht Club held a race for the Sflrer Fern one-design class on Saturday afternoon, starting and finishing off the new Ponsonby wharf. Tul took the lead from the start, and It was a close race, especially between Flying Cloud and Endeavour, only a second separating them at the finishing line. The finish was: Tul (scr), 4h 44m: Flying Cloud (lm 30s), 4h 44m 525; Endeavour (30s), 4h 44m 535; Valerie (3m 30s), 4h 47m 10s; Silver Fern (2m). 4h 58m as; Kandy Kid (3m 30s), 5h 4m 45b. O-Lan '•iirsd. The result was : Flying Cloud (Max Bartley) 1, Valerie (G. Burke) 2, Tul (Ray Verran) 3. Open Class.—A race was also held for the open class, and the finish was: Pal (scr), 4h tam; Kohu (scr), 4h 47m 30s; Peggy M., 5h 2m 10s. Result: Pal (K. McLean) 1, Kohu (J. Rew) 2Four New Boats Launched. The club's one-design class of 12-footers, designed by Mr. Arch. Logan three years ago, now numbers 14 boats. Four have been completed at the club's workroom, In the basement of Mr. Geo. Dennea' residence, Sarsfield Street, for their owners, under the supervision of the club. The new boats were launched on Saturday afternoon from Mr. Dennes' slip.

The boats and their owners are: Papere, J. Vlckerman, which was christened by Miss Vickerman; Clipper, N. Hewson, christened by Miss Hewson; Flash, W. Leyland, christened by Mrs. A. Leyland; and Electra, Ray Wilson, christened by Mrs. P. Wilson. After the christening ceremony, performed in the orthodox manner, the four new boats were soon underway, and held their first race. It was close throughout, only 20s separating the four at the finish. The finish was: Papere, 5h 36m, 1 ; Electra 5h 36m Is, 2; Flash, 5h 30m 15s, Clipper, &h 36m 20s, 4. _ officers of the day were Messrs. A. G. Taylor and A. Hurley. The commodore of the club, Mr. Geo. Dennee, congratulated the young owners on the completion of their work, and on the very close finish. He said in three years the class numbered 14, including one on the Manukau. Several were to be built for next season, and plans had been sent to Greymouth last year, from which live boats had been built. OCEAN RACE TO WHANGAJtOA KEEL AND MULLET BOATS. In addition to a race for keel vnchts to Whangaroa, starting at 7.15 p.m. on Christmas Eve, a race will be held for all classes of mullet boats, 20ft to 2(>ft. This race is sponsorede by the Ponsonby Cruising Club. The prizes in each race are £7 £5 and £2 10/, with an entry fee of 10/. Entries close to-day.
