STUDLEY ROYAL IMPROVED.

Stialley Royal, who easily accounted for Sir Hugh over a mile and a quarter at Hororata recently, won two races afl a two-year-old when trained by F. Holmes, but failed to get on the list as a three-year-old Jast season. He ran fourth in the New Zealand Derby won by Wild Chase and was considered to have favourable prospects in the Great Northern Derby in the following month, but went sore. He was nut aside until this season, when he was given to F. D. Jones to train. Although he disappointed at the New Zealand Cup meeting, and also at Ashburton at the end of last month, his performance on Saturday was attractive and convincing. He is nominated for some of the middle distance events at Ellerslie
