SEAMAN SENT TO GAOL

WELLINGTON", this day,

"I don't like men who use knives, and I am going to give you seven davs," said Mr._J._G. L. Hewitt. S.M., to John Henry O Brien (53). a seaman, who was charged with assaulting Michael Coyne. "Use your fists. That is another matter. But when you start with kni\es that is not playing the game, and you know it," added the magistrate. Coyne, in evidence, said he was seated in a billiards room when accused came up and struck him twice in the face. He then produced a knive and witness had his hand cut in warding- off a blow. A constable who was called in said accused had a big pocket knife in liis possession and was drunk. On a charge or drunkenness O'Brien was convicted and discharged.
