AUCKLAND CENTRE.
PRAISE FOR HONORARY INSTRUCTORS. N.S.W. POLO TEAM COMING. At last night's meeting of the Auckland Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association, it was decided to send letters expressing appreciation of their services as honorary instructors during the "learn-to-svvim" campaign to Messrs. H. W. Moore, C. E. Bernard, H. W. Ingram, Mrs. E. Shepherd and Misses E. Tilsey and A. Osborne. The chairman, Mr. T. C. Hobfos-Jones, referred to the excellent results obtained by these instructors, especially mentioning Messrs. Moore and Bernard. Mr. \V. O. Stockley, honorary secretary to the Auckland branch of the National Committee of Swimming and Life-Saving, was also heartily thanked for his services in organising the campaign. The chairman paid a tribute to Mr. Stockley, and expressed appreciation of the assistance given him by Miss 1). Sime. The extension by the Auckland Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association, on behalf of the Waitemata Amateur Swimming Club, of an invitation to the New South Wales Water Polo Association to send a team to Auckland next March was confirmed. secrafcary, Mr. J.' R'. Miller, reported having eent the invitation to the Amateur Swimming Union, of Australia, through the New Zealand Council.
It was resolved 'to* place a remit before tlie New Zealand conference of swimming centres that," as the * visiting" team was likely to play a.New 'Zealand team, the members of this side should receive New Zealand blazers. '
Mr. J. J. Enwi'ight .stated, that the New South Wales team would lie the first water polo team, to come to New Zealand from another country. It would probably play matches against the Waitemata Club, Auckland and New ] Zealand. . A member'of the Aucklarid Water Polo Control Board, Mr. H. Neale, reported that 45 matches were drawn for this seanon, but that the board did not have facilities to play them, as th6y could only take place at swimming carnivals. Owing to the 40-hour week and labour costs, the privilege of playing matches at the Tepid Baths had been greatly curtailed. A deputation comprising Messrs. T. C. Hobbs-Jones, H. Neale and W. Elwartli was appointed to request the City Council to grant more time for water polo. Miss E. Tilsey was appointed chaperon of the senior team attending the national championships at New Plymouth, and Mrs. E. Johnston chaperon of the intermediate and junior team competing in the Dominion meeting at Nelson. Mr, W. Ehvarth was appointed manager of the latter team and Mr. L. Richardson was elected to take charge of the senior team. Messrs. .T, Enwright and Richardson were appointed tlie centre's delegates to the New Zealand conference of centres on January 8.
Several remits were adopted for submission to the annual conference of delegates to be held during the national carnival in Taranaki next month.
