HELP FOR EX-SERVICEMEN
According to a report submitted by the board at a meeting of the executive committee of the Auckland Provincial 1 ati iotio and Wnr Kelief Associat ion jesterday, a total of <540 applications for assistance were considered by the claims board of the association during the la*t quarter. Assistance was given in 440 cases, the total amount granted being flCtiO. Of the remainder, 93 were declined and 90 referred to the patriotic society responsible. Cases were still coming before the board of men who were only now applying for assistance, and who were thoroughly deserving of war pensions. This showed that funds must necessarily still be available for some very deserving cases. It was agreed that the committee would, as usual, make a Christmas gift of a small sum of money to inmates of the Evelyn Firth Home and the Auckland Hospital shelters. This, together with a small addition of tobacco or cigarettes, had always proved most acceptable.
