"NO FAVOURITISM."
GOVERNMENT SUBDIVISION. CITY COUXCEL STANDS FIRM. (By Telegraph—Own Corresjpomden*.) DUXEDIX, this day. "Xo favouritism for the Government" is the decision of the works committee of the City Council. The Housing Department is endeavouring 1 to secure approval of a subdivision of portion of its Wakari block, but the council will not give its consent until a 30ft road, a standard demanded of private citizens when subdividing, is provided. ''We are on the box seat here," remarked the Mayor, Rev. E. T. Cox. when Dr. D. G. McMillan, M.P.. unsuccessfully pleaded with the council to change its mind. The Mayor: *We must insist on the same for the Government as for private citizens. As soon as the Government complies with our everything will be all right.
