CLOTHING DISPLAY.

CATHOLIC WOMEN. GIFTS FOR ORPHANAGES. The Catholic Women's League held its final At Home for the year in its rooms la«t evening. The interesting feature was the display of garments, which were the work of the sewing circle, and of the various branches of the league. These garments will be distributed among three Konian Catholic homes in Auckland, the Star <>f the Sea orphanage for girls at Ho wick, St. Joseph's orphanage for boys at Takapuna, and the Home of Compassion. Other garments will also be distributed to general charities.

Daintiness and utility were combined in the hundreds of garments displayed. Nothing was drab either in «.tvle or in colour. Nightgowns were hand embroidered and edged with lace, and the frocks were to-day's fashions and made of gay-coloured materials. There were a large'number of silk patchwork bed | quilts, which included all colours. Sewing Circle's Work. The sewing circle ol the league, of which Miss M. Lloyd is the convener, had made hundreds of nightgowns for children and adulte, while one member socialised in making boys' shirts and another in boys' trousers. This circle also displayed the attractively designed bed quilts.

A variety of useful and attractive garments had also been made by members of the Waiuku, Matamata, Dargaville and Te Arolia branches of the league. In the Dargavillc section a number of knitted baby sets made bv a girl of 14 specially tor the H : Miie of Compassion attracted particular interest. No material was wasted, the ingenuity with which scraps of material had been sewn together in tlia construction of a garment being a notable feature of the display.

A brief programme was presented by tlie Misses Mary and Peggi Cruickshank, who recited, while incidental music was also enjoyed. The assistance {riven the league charities by the co-operation of the branches »as emphasised by Miss Walsh. The licv.
