Y.M.C.A. BUILDING.

IMPROVEMENTS COMPLETED.

FI NDS FROM RECENT APPEAL.

Much-needed improvements and renovations to the building of the Yonng Men's Christian Association in Wellesley Street have been carried out. This has lieen made possible as a result of the generous response to the recent Coronation appeal for funds.

Swing doors on spring hinges have been hung in the lobby, and the entrance lounge ha.* Keen practically trebled in size by the removal of a glass scrc:>n. A new semi-circular counter of modern design now faces the entrance. This is finished with polished walnut and skirting, and is edged with chromium strips.

Large fireplaces in the lounge and Young Men's Division have been rebuilt. The old public offics has been eliminated, and a door behind the counter now gives access to the secretary's office, a tele phone booth and a parcel store. A large archway in front of the stairs has been done away with and the space filled in with glazed swing doors and sidelights. On the first floor the removal of a dividing wall has made for a bright and enlarged young men's sitting room, together with an office for the activities' secretary, a committee room and a meetiiig room. Apart from the painting and paperhanging decorations, many improvements have been made in renovating and renewing furnishings, carpets and linoleums. These are the most striking features of the renovations, but the remainder of the building has not been forgotten. The concert hall, boys' department, corrklors and bedrooms have been repapered and distempered. The old building has thus enjoyed the biggest "clean-up" of its twenty-five years' existence. The work has been designed and supervised by the chairman of the property committee, Mr. Basil Hooper.
