"Betting in a hotel wan hef Not the same hotel where the two men before the Court yesterday were betting in. I suppose?" a*ked Mr. F. K. Hunt. R.M., in thai Police Court to-day when Trevor Trevetta appeared on summons charged with carrying on the business of a bookmaker on November 21).
"Yes, it wa« the same hotel," replied Detective-Sergeant McHugh, to the obvious surprise of the magistrate, who merely said "H'm."
About the defendant, who pleaded guilty, Mr. McHugh said complaint*? having been received about betting in I this hotel, a constable made bets with Trevetta and also «aw him mak" other bets in the bar on November 27 and 20. "This man is In good employment with the Public Work* Department." said Mr. McHugh. "He earns £9 10/ each fortnight, and after knocking off work at 4.30 p.m. he makes straight for this hotel and carries on bra calling as a bookmaker. He constantly bets there. A married man with five children, lie has never been in any trouble before." "Anything to say?" asked the magistrate. "No. gfr," snid Trevetta. "Well, you are fined £2T>," «aid Mr. Hunt, who allowed Trevetta 24 hours in which to pay.
