COMMITTEE MEETS.

TWO CUPS DONATED.

RACING OFFICIALS APPOINTED

Racing officials and sub-committees wej e appointed last evening at a meeting of the Auck'.Aßd Anniversary Regatta Committee. Mr C. Griffith* over an attendance of 80 members.

The question of the committee taking more interest in motor speed boat racing wae discussed, it being pointed out that ten years ago this wue a prominent part of the programme. An effort to bring tne Masport Cup back to Auckland i.s to be made this year by Mr. A. Williams, who bas built "a special bull a'nd fitted a powerful motor. In view of the possibility of holding the. contest in Auckland in 193!) or 1940, a recommendation to the finance committee that a donation be made towards the cost of .sending the Auckland challenge was carried. Mr. G. Dennes reported that two crack boats would be coining from Sydney to compete in our 18-footers' race at the 1939 regatta to return the compliment of Auckland boats which were being shipped to Sydney next month to compete in their 130 th anniversary celebrations.

The sum of £50, donated by a former Auckland boy, Mr. .1. K. Savory, of San Francisco, for tho purchase of a trophy, to be known as the "Albio Braund" Cup was ordered to be spent to best advantage by the finance committee. Thin cup will be allotted by the sailing committee to a different cla.se each year.

Captain F. A. Hull, R.X.V.R., presented a silver cup for the winner of the Naval whalers' rowing race at the regatta. The cup was much admired and Captain Hull accorded a hearty vote of thanks for his gift. It was decided to purchase a cup with the funds donated to the committee by the yacht chilis <>f Auckland in memory of the late Mr. Herbert Kirkham.

Mr. Wilkinson said that there were many old regatta competitors now living away from Auckland who still took an interest in the city's oldest sporting fixture. On his motion Mr. Charles Petley, of The Mount, Tauranga, was elected a vice-president of the regatta and invited to be the guest of the committee on January 29.

The Orakei, Ponsonhy, Point Chevalier and Mnnnkan Model Yacht Clubs were nsked to nominate two members to form the model yacht committee. It was decided to invite (lie linndicappers of the Roval New Zealand Yacht Squadron to handicap rlnases A. B and M. and representative-; from the Roval Aknrnna Yaclit Club and the Ponsonbv. Victoria and Richmond Cruising Clulis to handicap all other except Z. which will be carried out by the 'J'.ikapuna Boating Club.
