WOMEN AT CREASE.
SHIELD CHALLENGES
WELLINGTON'S PROGRAMME
Another challenge to a match for the Hallyburton Johnstone Shield has been received by the Wellington Women's Cricket Association, which lifted the trophy last season from Auckland. This challenge is from Auckland, but before it can be accepted the, question of Otago's previous challenge has to be settled. The Wellington Association has been arranging for its match with Otago to be played at Wellington on December 25 and 27, but apparently there is still some doubt as to whether Otago is prepared to play the match on those date*.
i At this week's meeting of the Wellington Women's Cricket Association committee it was decided to send a telegram to Otago asking whether they were prepared to play at the time arranged. Auckland is desirous of meeting Wellington during the Christmas holidays, and this will be the big event for women cricketers if Otago is unable to fall in with the present plans. The women's representative matches will have added importance this season in view of the proposal to send a team to' Australia. Selected players from the various associations are to appear in a trial match at Christchurch. The standard of play is showing a marked advance, and New Zealand should have a strong side for the visit to Australia. In Wellington eome really excellent performances are being recorded. Among the seniors Miss D. Hatcher led the way with a century, and in this achievement ehe has been joined by Miss M. Corby, ;iho topped the 100 mark last Saturday. 1
