A tihick mkt enveloped the course at Te Rapu this morning and held up the early pox-tion of the day'e programme, and when several were eventually sent along they could not be timed. The course pi'oper, 50ft out, was cutting out somewhat following the soaking rain of yesterday, but it was in comparatively good order nevertheless, and if further rain ie not experienced between now and Saturday the racing surface will be splendid for the meeting. Several smart trials were recorded, the beet of the morning "being those of Respectful over a mile, and Trilliarch and Tosh over sprint distances. Among those to gallop when the pegs were obscured were Royal Bachelor, Awhiowhio and Bronzette.

Rollicker (Goulsbro) was sent six furlongs, and after travelling fast over the early part wag eaeing up over the final etagee to occupy 1.21%. He did hie work in pleasing style. A smart effort over five furlongs was credited to Trilliarch (Home), who easily accounted for Forest Acre (Gikner) in 1.4 3-5, time which wae by far the best of the morning over the distance. Mies Mestor (Paul), a likely maiden claiming engagements at the fixture, was doing better than Princess Lu (Clifford) over three furlongs in 39e. The former could have done much better. Tui Nui (light boy) accounted for Philemup (McKenzie) over fiVe furlongs in 1.8 3-5. Tui Nui looks well. Prince Acre (Day), under a nice hold, was shading Prince Rangi (Winder) at the end of six furlongs in 1.24 1-5. Prince Acre appreciated the easing nature of the track, and pleased by the manner in which he revelled in his task. Respectful (Gollop), who has been working -well of late, again pleased by beating Sinking Fund (Clifford) and Master Brierly (Winder) over the, deciding etageg of a mile in 1.49 4-5. Respectful finished full of running, and will.efcrip in great heart for pending engagement. Worked Freely. Friekland (McKenzie) worked freely over a round, coining home over her latt five furlongs easily in 1.15. There wae little between Cometarium (Mclaughlin) and Desert Wings (Amuneden) at the completion of five furlongs in 1.10. Vitement (Winder) dashed over half a mile in 55 %s. Dark Shadow (McLaughlin) wee not bustled to cover five furlongs in 1.10%. He is entered for the sprint on the first day, but may be a better prospect for a mile on the second day of the meeting. Hopalong (Amuneden) come home from the eix-furlong peg in 1.22, doing hie work pleasingly. Orac (Thomson) ehaped solidly oven- a round in 2.5. He is bearing a healthy appearance. May Song (Winder)

English Night (Day) wae in front of U Allegro (Gilmer), with Trouvaille (Reilly) eome lengths away, ait the completion of a round in 2.7, their laet eix furlongs occupying 1.25. The Jumpers.

Innes Lad (Cotter) shaped well in a bout over eix hurdlee. He had plenty of pace on, and while he shaped rather carefully at several fences _hie exhibition on the whole was a pleasing one.

Valpai (J. Winder) jumped, four hurdles in dashing style. He ie bearing a healthy appearance, and should make a bold showing in the Waimai Hurdles on Saturday. Windsor Lad (Muir) negotiated six hurdlee safely. Daventry (Gilmer) and Racewhip (Day) were associated over four of the steeplechaee fences. Daventry'e exhibition was not impressive, and hie unorthodox jumping at the two sodwalle caused some amusement. He jumped on to the top of the obstacle and then scrambled down the far eide. Racewhip did his task well. Among those exercieed on the eand was the visiting sprinter, Peter Beckford, who looks in forward condition for racing. Riding Engagements. Riding engagements include: J. They jumped off near the sevenfurlong barrier, taking the brush alone the back together and the eodwall near the half-mile. They cleared the brush across the top, and it was at the eodwall at the foot of the straight that Day Boy came to Rrief, his rider. K. E. Thomson, fortunately escaping: with a minor ehakinjr.
