AMAZING GROWTH.
FINGERLXNG TROUT. (Prom Our Correspondent.) THAMES, Sunday. A report on the progress of the work at the Auckland Acclimatisation Society's fish hatcheries was given by the president, Mr. F. E. McKenzie, at a meeting of the society on Saturday evening. He stated that remarkably good results were being obtained.
Mr. McKenzie said that the putting of fry in rivers had been practically abandoned and the society was now going in for fingerlinge, of which there were 600,000 at the hatcheries. The growth of the fish had been amazing, while the loss had been small. Two or three months' old fish measured up to 3in and were full-bodied and healthy. Next time the Kauaeranga River was stocked 33.000 fingerlings would be used and anglers would notice the difference, added Mr. McKenzie.
