United Press Association. —Copyright. (Received 10 a.m.) LONDON", November 12. Newspapers are unable to penetrate the veil of secrecy surrounding Britain's new anti-aircraft gun, which for the first time was revealed in a guarded written reply in the House of Commons. Sir Victor Warrender, Financial Secretary to the War Office, baldly announced the perfection of the gun.
It is understood that military authorities are satisfied that, after years of research and at huge expenditure, the gun will prove effective against air raiders.
RUNAWAY BALLOON.
Two Miles of Cable Dangled
Across Kent.
PERIL TO AIR, LAND AND SEA.
(Received 12.30 p.m.) LONDON, November 12. An anti-aircraft barrage balloon with 12,000 feet of cable attached, broke - adrift from Manston Air Force station, Kent. The dangling cable narrowly missed wrecking two bombers in midair and two cars on the road.
The balloon is at present drifting in a south-easterly direction, and shipping and aircraft have been •warned by wireless.
