DUKE'S DOMAINS.
Forced by Taxes and Duties
To Sell.
PURCHASE BY THE CROWN. RUGBY, November 12. A castle, six villages and 90,000 acres of land in Scotland, including seven famous grouse moors, 449 farms and holdings, and 3764 acres of woodlands have been purchased by the Commissioners of Crown Lands from the Duke of Richmond. The property forms the greater part of the Duke's estates in Morayshire and Banffshire, and covers about 140 square miles. The commissioners have purchased it as a permanent investment and are taking over the estates as a going concern. The purchase price has not been disclosed. Tenants are not to be disturbed and employees are to be retained.
The Duke, who has parted with his property with great reluctance, states that increasing taxation and death duties have compelled him to do so.
